The Covenant Thread

Watch one promise travel thousands of years — from a rainbow over a flooded world to a city where God lives with His people. Ten sessions trace the covenants that hold the whole Bible together.

  1. Reading 1

The Covenant of the RainbowGenesis 9:1–17

The thread begins after the flood, when God sets His bow in the clouds and covenants never again to destroy all flesh by flood.

  2. Reading 2

    The Call of AbramGenesis 12:1–9

The storyline moves to Abram: God calls one man and promises that through him all the families of the earth will be blessed.

  3. Reading 3

    God’s Covenant with AbramGenesis 15:1–7

God confirms His promise to Abram with a covenant ceremony in which a smoking firepot and blazing torch pass between the pieces.

  4. Reading 4

    The Covenant SealedExodus 24:1–11

Abraham's family has become a nation, and at Sinai the covenant is sealed in blood as Israel pledges to live as God's own people.

  5. Reading 5

    God’s Covenant with David2 Samuel 7:1–17

God promises David an enduring house and throne; the New Testament presents Jesus as the promised Son of David.

  6. Reading 6

    The New CovenantJeremiah 31:26–40

After Israel breaks the covenant, Jeremiah promises a new covenant with God's law written on human hearts.

  7. Reading 7

A New Heart and a New SpiritEzekiel 36:16–38

Ezekiel fills in how the new covenant will work: God will give His people a new heart and put His own Spirit within them.

  8. Reading 8

    The Last SupperLuke 22:14–23

At a Passover table, Jesus lifts the cup and declares the promise fulfilled — 'this cup is the new covenant in My blood.'

  9. Reading 9

    The New CovenantHebrews 8:6–13

Hebrews looks back over the whole thread and explains why the covenant Jesus mediates is better — built on better promises, with Jeremiah's words come true.

  10. Reading 10

A New Heaven and a New EarthRevelation 21:1–8

The thread reaches its destination: God dwells with His people forever, and the covenant refrain — 'they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them' — is finally home.
