About Lamentations

Lamentations is a set of five carefully crafted funeral poems over the ruins of Jerusalem. It gives honest, unflinching voice to grief, hunger, and shame after the city's fall, refusing to rush past the pain. Right at its center, though, stands a stubborn hope: God's mercies are new every morning. In the Bible's story, it shows God's people learning to pray through disaster instead of pretending it away.

Written by
The book itself names no author; a long tradition credits the prophet Jeremiah, though many scholars say we simply cannot be sure.
When
It was almost certainly written soon after Babylon destroyed Jerusalem in 586 BC, while the grief was still raw.
